Leatherman introduces folding knives
January, 2005, Portland, OR - Multi-tool pioneer and market leader Leatherman Tool Group has added folding knives to their product line. A phased introduction of both locking liners and lockbacks began in October and will wrap up in January with eight additional models. The full line of 18 knives is available online and at retailers nationwide.
"We have responded to the requests of our outdoor and professional customers for knives such as these by building on our tradition of quality and innovation," says Leatherman CEO Jake Nichol. "The introduction of folding knives and the release of these eight new models is something we are very excited about."
The knife line includes traditional locking liners (e- and c-models) and lockbacks (k- and h-models). Even-numbered models indicate a straight edge and odd numbers indicate a combo (straight/serrated) edge. The locking liners employ Leatherman's patent-pending Blade Launcher technology; the larger lockback models have one-handed, thumb stud opening mechanisms.
"Our challenge was to design a set of knives that kept bulk and weight at a minimum but didn't skimp on any additional features we thought the user would appreciate," says Benjamin Rivera, VP Design Engineering. "We've definitely created a feature-dense product and these models will definitely catch the eye of hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts across the spectrum."
In true Leatherman fashion the knife collection exhibits not only superior blade quality and overall knife construction, but also features useful enhancements such as retractable bottle openers/carabiners (on certain models), various screwdrivers, removable pocket clips and bit drivers. The knife line features a range of styles and even includes a sleek, aluminum model, the c302/c303. The c302/c303 makes a visual departure from the more utilitarian black handle, appealing to both outdoor enthusiasts and urban warriors alike. MSRP for the knives ranges from $40-110. Like all Leatherman products they feature a 25-year, limited warranty.
