Keeping the best and enhancing the rest
December, 2006, Portland, OR - This January, Leatherman will begin shipping its newly-enhanced and expanded Charge multi-tool series. The tools will include new premium materials and combined feature sets, once again raising the industry bar in multi-tool manufacturing.
The Charge Ti and XTi are being discontinued and replaced with three new models. The first, Charge TTi, has titanium handles and a combination tool set from the Ti and the XTi - including the popular scissors, crimper and cutting hook from both. The TTi's clip point knife has been upgraded to S30V® stainless steel. Known for its optimal combination of edge retention, flexibility and hardness, S30V® is one of the strongest stainless steels available.
Also being introduced are the Charge AL and ALX. The naming of these models reflects the change in handle material from titanium to 6061-T6, aluminum alloy. Crafted with rounded edges for superior comfort, the handles are heat-treated and hard-anodized for wear-resistance and strength. Tool features on the AL are the same as the original Ti and ALX the same as the XTi.
"When we started the redesign of the Charge line, we wanted to make sure, above all else, that we didn't lose the features our customers liked best." says Market Research Analyst, Meei Lum. "With the AL, ALX and TTi we've managed to keep the best of what we had and come up with three strong and stylish new tools."
The Charge AL, ALX and TTi all have locking blades, diamond-coated files, multiple bit drivers and a knife blade with one of the longest cutting edges of any multi-tool on the market today. Also included are crimpers, strippers and cutters, saws, bottle/can openers, serrated knife and redesigned pliers that withstand 133% more squeezing force.
All three models come with a nylon or leather sheath that carry the tool in the open or closed position. MSRP on the new Charge AL and ALX models is $128.00 and $159.00 for the titanium TTi. All the tools are backed by Leatherman's 25-year warranty.
Founded in 1985, Leatherman Tool Group is known for producing the world's most precisely engineered multi-tools and knives. Tim Leatherman's manufacturing standards remain unmatched in the industry today. With the Charge AL, ALX and TTi the Leatherman tradition of innovation, tight specifications, and premium materials continues to endure.
