Leatherman Saved My Life

I was driving in my Volkswagen Vanagon camper when out of the blue a car pulls out of a side street and t-bones my van. ... Read the Rest of This Story

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.

Charge TTi to the Rescue!

In my opinion, the Leatherman Charge TTi is one of the best multi-tools on the planet. I own a dozen Charge's ranging from the ALX to the Cabelas Seclusion 3D TTi. I like the Charge models because they are so much more comfortable than the Wave as the Ti and Al scales are rounded yielding a surprisingly comfortable grip. Not only that, but you also get a bunch of accessories and premium materials with the Charge so they are indeed worth the money.

Now, to my story: Every year, I go camping at Gunstock in the White Mountains of NH with family and I find a multitool to be indispensible. Camping at Gunstock is a fun time and I enjoy it quite a bit. However, it is indeed luxury camping. I used my Charge from everything from food prep, whittling, sawing (dead wood of course :D), using the pliers to remove hooks from fish, and even an emergency repair that wouldn't have been possible without the Charge. So, the water pipe that goes from the adapter to the sink was leaking.

Now, here's where the Charge came in. To access the pipe, I needed to unscrew a baseboard. So, my uncle brings out the big tool box and sure enough he doesn't have the correct bit for the job. So, I take a look at it with my Charge TTi and 42 piece set and sure enough I had the bit. It was a Robertson bit (which I guess are extremely common in Canada). So, I removed all the screws and we were able to fix the leak. Without the Charge, we would have had to drive at least 20 minutes to the local hardware store, pay about $5 for the bit, and drive back wasting gas and money. But, sure enough, I had my Charge with bit set and I was able to save the day. After that, no one teased me about carrying the multitool.

As you would imagine, I felt good about myself as I saved time and money. Sure, I didn't fix a plane or amputate any limbs with my Charge but it sure did come in handy. That's why I always have a multitool on me. So, if you don't think the Charge is worth the money I would suggest you play with one in a store and you will see how great they really are. Don't forget the extra bit set as it contains every bit you would ever need!
