Fitting Room Rescue
I am the maintenance manager with Wal-Mart in Winkler, Manitoba, Canada and for many years I have had a Leatherman tool on my belt (this is not an approved tool to be used at Wal-Mart but I have the bosses ok to have it). Every day I find a new use for my Leatherman, not a day goes by that I am not fixing something in the store with it.
Several weeks ago there was a frantic page over the PA system CRAIG FROM MAINTENANCE TO THE FITTING ROOMS, PLEASE and as I was heading over there the page came again with a bit more urgency so I ran to the fitting rooms to see what was wrong. An elderly man had locked himself in the fitting room and was getting quite upset at the fact that he could not get out. It seems that when he turned the knob to open the door the knob just kept turning but the door would not open the lock must have broken inside.
So out comes the Leatherman and I used it to jimmie the lock open and the man came out. He was quite relieved to be out and said thank you. I told him that it was no problem and I went back to my office. My boss came up to me later that day and asked me, “Hey Craig, do you have that thingy on your belt?” I said, “Yes, I don’t leave home without it.” He said, “That’s a handy thing to have. I got to get me one of those.” I told him Sporting Goods, second row in the glass case, some one there can hook you up. Thanks Leatherman.
