Leatherman Saved My Life

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.

It Just Keeps Working...

My story is quite simple. When I started in Law Enforcement 25 years ago, one of the first items I bought when I hit the streets was a Leatherman tool. Everyone had a folding pocket knife, but I wanted something more because I knew I'd be doing more than cutting. At the time, I believe there were only one or two models available and I got the one that my local cop shop had in stock. Stainless steel body, knife, pliers, Phillips, straight slot screw drivers and a file. The tool didn't even come with a case; it fit very nicely in a .380 magazine pouch (which still sits on my gun belt today).

Twenty five years, three stripes and numerous assignments later, that Leatherman tool is still with me. I've used it on everything from fixing a battery cable on a stranded motorist's car to cutting seatbelts to dismantling a door lock during a warrant service. I could have easily gotten a newer model, but I know this tool so well and am so comfortable with it, I even know where each tool is just by feel, a huge benefit when I'm working on that door lock in the middle of the night and only have a couple minutes to get it apart. Keep up the good work...
