The Missing Piece
Back in the summer of 02, I had been in a car accident. The doctors wasted no time sewing the many lacerations on my face. At one point I reminded the doctors that I was sure I had something (like glass) poking my eyelid, they assured me that there was no such thing, since they had many x-rays of my eye. Could it be that these doctors had overlooked a small detail?
A year and a half later after moving to the Adirondacks of New York, I was sitting in my living room reflecting on my long days work. The scratching sensation of my eye began to worsen, within only a matter of minutes, I discovered some sort of protruding and most certainly foreign object matter coming from my eyelid. As I rushed to the bathroom mirror to get a better gander, I grabbed my trusty Leatherman, (the original one). I began to think how the best way to handle this situation, I began by using rubbing alcohol, and peroxide to disinfect the pliers, and then the knife as well; the more difficult part came when I had to retrieve this piece of glass. After scoring the piece of eyelid trapping the glass, I utilized my pliers and pulled ever so gently on the glass, and then repeated the scoring, and so on.
When it was all said and done, I was able to free myself from this terrible discomfort not to mention, the bump they referred to as scar tissue. The piece of glass measures 3/16 of an inch by 1/8 of an inch, I saved the piece in a sealed bag, and put it in my file for the doctor bills. This is just one of my handy uses over the years. Thanks Leatherman.
