"Why are you guys always suing somebody?"
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but in the area of intellectual property rights, it can be against the law.
According to company president Tim Leatherman, the company is "vigorously enforcing its legal rights against those who sell imitations of genuine Leatherman products. Knockoffs and other kinds of unfair competition drain American manufacturers of millions of dollars in sales every year, after they have invested extensively in product development and marketing."
Copies of Leatherman tools can confuse consumers, who may think they are buying an actual Leatherman product but are left with an inferior imitation. This damages the reputation Leatherman Tool Group has built with its strict adherence to quality standards. Consequently, it is in our interest, and in the interest of consumers, to take all prudent legal action against purveyors of imitation Leatherman tools.
