A great choice for first-time users, the original Portland, Oregon multi-tool manufacturer is making you your very own Sidekick. This handy pocket-sized tool has all the features you need to get your project done, at a fraction of the cost. The handy, outside-accessible blades mean you can open the knife with just one hand and rounded handles make getting a grip around their all-new, spring-action jaws easy and very comfortable. Stainless steel and backed by a 25-year warranty; first choice, or handy second backup, you can't beat the value of the Sidekick.

Sidekick® Tools

  1. Spring-action Needlenose Pliers

A precise cast pinching tool for holding or manipulating materials, ideal for small objects or tight spaces, that automatically spring back to the open position when not being used. Spring-loaded tools are helpful for reducing hand fatigue that can occur when manually adjusting the grip on the tool with one hand.

  2. Spring-action Regular Pliers

A precise cast pinching tool for holding or manipulating materials, that automatically spring back to the open position when not being used. Spring-loaded tools are helpful for reducing hand fatigue that can occur when manually adjusting the grip on the tool with one hand.

  3. Spring-action Wire Cutters

Bypassing cutting blades meant for cutting regular-gauge wire, that automatically spring back to the open position when not being used. Spring-loaded tools are helpful for reducing hand fatigue that can occur when manually adjusting the grip on the tool with one hand.

  4. Wire Stripper

A useful notch for safely stripping multiple types of wire.

  5. 420HC Knife

A knife crafted from 420HC, a high-carbon stainless steel that is corrosion resistant and can be easily maintained.

  6. 420HC Serrated Knife

A toothed blade crafted from 420HC stainless steel. Serrations grab and cut materials easily, making this style of blade exceptionally useful for cutting through rope or fiber.

  7. Saw

A toothed tool made from 420HC stainless steel that is designed to work on a pull motion, which requires less effort and has less propensity for breakage. The open-tooth design keeps the saw from filling up with material, allowing the user to complete a job without pausing to clean the tool.

  8. Ruler (1.5 in | 3.8 cm)

A precise measuring guide for determining length in inches or centimeters, up to 1.5 inches or 3.8 centimeters.

  9. Can Opener

A lever/punch style tool to assist in opening canned goods, perfect for camping or in survival situations. The blade on this tool has been ground in a way that it pushes the cut metal into the rim, keeping sharp edges from cutting the user as the can is handled.

  10. Bottle Opener

A tool that allows the user to pop the top on a favorite beverage.

  11. Wood/Metal File

A 420HC stainless steel tool with a crisscross pattern that forms a rough surface for the user to file or smooth both wood and metal surfaces. The file pattern on Leatherman files is extended to the end of the file as well as down the side to give a file stoke and/or a more precise file edge.

  12. Phillips Screwdriver

Created originally by Henry F. Phillips, this screwdriver is for use on Phillips head screws.

  13. Medium Screwdriver

A flat bladed screwdriver tooled from 420HC stainless steel, intended for use on medium slotted screws.

  14. Small Screwdriver

A flat bladed screwdriver tooled from 420HC stainless steel, intended for use on small slotted screws.

Sidekick® Features

  1. Lanyard Ring

This secure ring is for attaching the tool safely and securely to a lanyard. Often people who work near water or on scaffolding attach their tool to a lanyard on their person to avoid losing the tool if it's dropped.

  2. Replaceable Pocket Clip

A removable clip which allows the user to wear their multi-tool attached to a pocket or belt loop without the use of a sheath. By removing the clip, the user is able to easily carry their tool in a sheath if preferred.

  3. Outside-accessible Features

This multi-tool features tools that are accessible while the tool is in its folded or closed position, mimicking the functionality of a pocket knife.

  4. One-hand Operable Features

Every feature on this tool can be opened and operated with one hand. This enables the user to keep the other hand free for situations that require multi-tasking or a free hand.

I'm a do-it-yourselfer and I'm all over the house fixing things. If I didn't have this little guy with me, I would be running back and forth to the shop to get the different tools needed to do the job. It's a perfect replacement for the majority of tools needed, from wire strippers to cutters to screwdrivers. It's great!!

    Comments about Sidekick:

I love everything about the sidekick. It's size and price are perfect for adding to all my backpacks and bug out bags. The blades and saw are just a little on the thin side. Already broke off the saw on one of mine. But I still love it.

    Comments about Sidekick:

The sidekick is okey, it has good pliers, with great spring action, the knife is too short, the sawed knife is way too short and should be on the outside for easy access, the needle tip itself is good, but if i need to apply force on the plaier it hurts me in my hand, because the edges are too sharp, siccorrs could be added, the wire cutter is too far from eachother, a string or a cable should be supplied so the ring and the tool could be tied together, and all tools should be locked.

    Not a leatherman!

      Comments about Sidekick:

Not the quality I'm use to in leatherman's. Bought one to replace my old sideclip which I've been in love with for years but have decided to retire before it gets damaged or broken as its to sentimental. I understand the concept of the knive as an entry model to attract new customers but thats the thing, you need to impress new customers! The sidekick in my opinion is not impressing. Bottom line is the old sideclip was high quality and strong, yes is had short blades and no one hand access blade but the quality stood out and was proven over many years. Hence after owning the side clip I know own about 9 leathermans. So leatherman, rather increase your entry level prices but keep the quality at a certain standard. The Rebar wich I also own is a good example of entry level quality, not as fast as a more expensive wave but it will get the job done everytime and last years. Bottom line I gave my sidekick to my girlfriend and bought another rebar to replace its role!

        Comments about Sidekick:

Recieved this as a Christmas Gift from My Wife last year and was very pleased on having my first Leatherman. However in the business I came across some good and bad things about my new LM. First, it is very compact and i eaven forget i have it on my belt. Second its decent for quick touch up tasks or using on light duty. Third I see that what is a great tool is the Needle Nose Pliers as they have saved time in going back to my tool box and coming back. Now for the bad, The Needle Nose pliers are not flushed and are not properly sanded down on the tips , there are some spots where you can see it needs some sanding and polishing. Secondly the wire cutters dont close all the way. there is a very small gap between the cutters when they are closed and that becomes a problem when I need to cut some CAT 5- CAT 6 wire or cable tie's which require more than one cut with the leatherman to finish the cut. All in all its good for a beginner tool but not too adequate for the Job site. Depending on your profession It can be a positive or negative. I would definatly keep this tool as Its sentemental value and it is a good tool to always carry wether on the job on at a BBQ.

its a nice tool for its price althoe the blade could have been bigger, it has the space for it, i think the blade-saw sepose to be outside as well and suitable for one hand use, like in the wave, there is a room for more tools inside and i think you shout provide a string to conect the tool to the ring it comes with. also the clips shoud be stronger so it would be able to atach to a belt.
other then that its a great tool that havent let me down. great work keep going.

                  Comments about Sidekick:

With its main knife conveniently accessible when folded, the Sidekick is designed for practicality. It carries nicely in the pocket without chafing when seated in the car/truck.

I have both the Sidekick and Wingman and without a doubt prefer the Sidekick. I like that the blade is non-serrated and have a saw instead of scissors.

As a landscaper, I'd use my hand pruners over the saw for branches up to half the length of the saw blade, but I do use it for cutting 3/4 inch PVC pipe and hoses when there is no pipe cutter around.

The main blade has gone through some rough work! I use it to poke breathing holes in chemical jugs, slice through roots and dirt when transplanting plants, has trimmed sod edges, opened packages, whittled wood, and cut my leftovers at lunch.

The pliers work for pulling out fish hooks, pulling out slivers, and tying up bait in safe/live traps.

Every tool has been used at one time or another.

I like the fact that there aren't any bits with it. They get lost by me really quick, so their use is lost on me. (Plus the Phillips heads usually break quickly as well.)

If anything, I wish the Sidekick was priced the same as the Wingman. To be honest here, I don't understand the ten dollar difference. It's a small matter.

I'd also like to know how to clean it properly. Throwing it in the dishwasher all folded up invites rust, and hand washing it still leaves moisture at the pivot points and inside the "pockets" of the main blade and saw. Oiling helps, but there's got to be a better way.

Even with this, the Sidekick is my constant carry tool. I find myself using it at work, out hiking, around town, and even at picnics.

The best moment came when a friend asked why I took it with me on vacation. Every day that week he ended up asking to borrow the Sidekick for one task or another. He plans on getting one for himself.

                    Comments about Sidekick:

I am nearly always fixing/repairing or building something. Even when I am in my shop (which is full of enough tools to supply Sears) I sometimes grab my Leatherman.

I was 10 miles from home last week when my old 1980 pickups front brakes locked up due to a failure of the master cylinder. I had no tools except my Leatherman. Leatherman and I was able to persuade the front brake line to come loose from the front of the master cylinder and release the pressure from the line and unlock the brakes. I was able to then "carefully" make my way home and replace the master cylinder at my shop.
                    Thanks Leatherman.

Hehe - All kidding aside, there are not enough adjectives to rate this tool! I know it's not the best model but for me it was a dream come true!
Extremely pleased with the tool and I hope to buy other models in another opportunity!

                      Comments about Sidekick:

I got this tool for the value, and because I've been wanting a backup to my Wave, so having to send that in for service was just the excuse I needed. The included carabiner inspired me to keep this, along with my keys, etc. all chained to my belt, a setup that I'm still getting used to. Overall, it's a great tool, but I have my fair share of nitpicks:

I much prefer manual locks on the tools, rather than the spring ones that are on the Sidekick.

I'm a bit wishy-washy on the openings on the sides of the handles to push the tools out. On one hand, it makes them easier to access. On the other, it makes them more likely to accidentally slip out, possibly injuring you.

Being right-handed, the saw is incredibly awdward to access, seeing as I mainly use the tool in my right hand.

I'd much rather thave the serrated blade on the side for easy access, rather than the saw.

The spring in the pliers takes some getting used to, having owned a Wave and SuperTool in the past.

Overall, this is a great tool. I wouldn't replace my Wave with it, but a great tool nonetheless. While I do have a fair few nitpicks, none of them are by any stretch of the imagination dealbreakers.

I think this knife this sidekick is really a sidekick on any adventure you take it. Remember the original American multi-tool. leave Nothing undone!

An absolutely stellar multi-tool: light weight, comfortable, easy to use, what more can I say. I especially like the spring loaded pliers, but I did manage to break the saw after about 8 months (over zealous), regardless you won't be disappointed.
