        Comments about Original Wave:

I recently retired a new Wave I bought last year and going back to my old Wave. I don't know when I bought it but it's been going strong for years and years. I also have a Leatherman Tool Adapter which is a screwdriver kit that fits between the handles when the Wave is closed and accepts standard bits. The only issue with my Wave is the smallest screwdriver is chipped on the end and the second smallest is twisted on the end. Not bad for an ancient tool. I may file one into an awl and the other into a smaller screwdriver.
I would recommend this to anyone who could find a first generation model but not the newest one.

        Comments about Original Wave:

I bought mine back in 1999 and it's seen a lot of use since then. I've carried it almost every day since I bought it and I quite literally lose count of the number of times I use it for something each week.

I chose it as I preferred the rounded grips of the Wave over the sharp edges of the PST series. The ability to access both knife blades without having to open the tool was also a factor in choosing it.

The tool opens smoothly and easily - I can flip it open "balisong-style" one-handed to access the pliers and other internal tools.

It has a great selection of well-made, useful tools - I use them all frequently. It doesn't have all the tools I would like, but it has enough that it handles most situations - emergency repairs, general DIY, opening innumerable cans, sawing wood, filing everything from plastic to metal, putting up shelves and many other random things that require a tool on hand.

It came with a Nylon pouch, of which the only fault was that it was secured by Velcro - the Velcro did not last (but was easily fixed by putting on a snap fastener).

The pouch is a necessity as the tool is too weighty to comfortably carry in trouser pockets - it's not much better in jacket pockets - so I generally carry it on my belt.
