Tool Tales

Helping the Military

Upon receiving the new Skeletool CX from my father as a Christmas gift, I decided to test it in my work environment to see how it would perform to other multi-tools. First off, I work as a wildland firefighter in Oregon in the summer months, and the use of a knife is a daily occurance. The company that employs me also gets contracts for all kinds of contract work, ranging from disaster relief, to setting up temporary housing for various uses.

The one in case was a job at Ft. Irwin, down in southern California in the Mojave desert. Our job was to establish temporary housing fully equipped with electricity, carpet, and heat out in the middle of nowhere. It was all for the National Guard troops to have live ammunition training before being deployed to Iraq. I was on the electrical team, setting up generators to supply light and outlets. Fitting 4000 or 7000 sq. ft. tents in 30 mph winds in a sandy eternity. Just finding some of the sites was difficult. Anyway I was the only one in our group that bothered bringing a multitool or blade. I know, shocking right. But while installing endless AC and heater units for 13-20 hours a day to fulfill a deadline, the Skeletool held up great despite being passed around constantly for a variety of tasks, using all implements of the tool, except bottle opener of course! I was impressed considering most of my coworkers have the traditional Leatherman in leather case on their belts, but I like the streamlined model and it's functions. Without it the brave men and women who train in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave desert to defend our great nation, wouldn't have had some basic comforts like light and heat.

Anyway, thanks for the great product, and keep them coming. Hopefully this tool in some tiny way helped save someone elses day somewhere far away, making us all proud.

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
