The Joke Backfires
On a recent day hike with two friends, I shared with them how I've been studying survival methods, for hikers who get lost in the wild. At that time, the idea came to them to play a practical joke upon me, and "ditch" me at an opportune moment. When I realized I was on my own, I called out to them for a time, and got no response. The hour was getting late, so I gave up trying to find them, and set about digging in for the night. I proceeded downhill on the trail, to a stream. With my pocket survival kit handy, I put my Charge TTi to work, gathering and cutting dead fire wood. After a while, I had nice little fire going. I also used the Charge's saw to cut some small branches, and was building myself a little shelter for the night. Just as I was finishing, and the sun was going down, my buddies showed up with a forestry service ranger. They had waited just a little too long, after I stopped calling out, to find me. When they couldn't, they made their way back to the ranger station and asked for help. He complimented me on my efforts, gave my buddies a good tongue lashing, and fined them both for their reckless behavior. So, thanks to my Leatherman, I was able to confidently build a survival camp, and got a good laugh at these two goons who learned a valuable lesson.
