Leatherman for the future of Africa
Leatherman for the future of Africa I am a student at Oregon Institute of Technology in the Renewable Energy Engineering department. This past summer 10 students had the chance to travel to Tanzania and participate on 12 projects through Solar HOPE, a non-profit whose mission is to provide renewable energy to developing countries.
Over 3 weeks, we traveled throughout Tanzania developing and installing PV systems for rural schools, hospitals, and orphanages that were unable or lacked the funds to have electricity. During our trip we installed systems that roughly produced 2400W of power and 100 gallons a day of clean drinking water for a local Maasai Tribe. Given that the locations of these schools and villages were pretty remote, supplies and tools were difficult to transport. Several of the engineers brought their Leathermans on the trip, and without my Blast, this trip wouldn't have been a success.
I can successfully say that with my multi-tool I have built and fixed desks, installed conduit, striped wires, hooked up fixtures and lights, installed housing and even used it to shave at one point. I thank you for a great product that is helping us make a difference.
Thank you!
