Cheaper than a tow
I have always carried a Leatherman with me for work as one of the most versatile tools I have, but I never thought I could use it to repair my car.
I was on my way to pick up the kids from the baby sitter and I was running late. If I was later than 6:00 PM, I would have to pay overtime. About 3 miles from the baby sitters house my car sputtered and I had to pull over. Figuring I would have to pay for a tow AND pay overtime, I thought "What the heck. I got nothing to loose".
I popped the hood and pretended to know what I was doing when I noticed one of the spark plugs had backed out but was still attached to the spark plug wire. The engine was hot so I wrapped a shop towel around my hand and was able to screw in the spark plug in tight enough to get the engine started. I made it to the baby sitter in time and made it home WITHOUT having to call a tow truck or pay the overtime. I was able to properly tighten the spark plug once home but I have since then never underestimated what you can do with stress, enginuity, determination and a Leatherman. I now keep one in the glovebox. Thanks
