Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.

How my Leatherman saved my life...

A couple of years ago, I was in Bonners Ferry, Idaho near the Canadian border for work. We were clearing trees from railroad crossings to get them to specification. I was using a chainsaw to cut down about 150, 2-ft tall fir trees, and as I was cutting, I turned around to see how far I'd gotten so far, and felt the chainsaw bite into my left thigh... I pulled the saw away from my leg, turned it off and set it down.

After a moment of sheer panic, I reached down without looking to feel for blood. There was no blood. I looked down and saw a 3" hole in my jeans right in front of the left front pocket. I reached into my pocket and noticed that the chainsaw had only made it INTO my pocket and not THROUGH. Why?, you ask.... because I just so happened to have my leatherman tool in that pocket, and the blades bounced off of my tool, instead of my leg.

The saw blade left some gnarly scratches on the side of the tool, but other than that, everything was fine. A friend of mine works at your factory in Portland , OR .. and I had him replace the tool, as the knife blade was broken. The model of my LIFE-SAVING Leatherman is the "juice CS4".

I just figured that I would write to you and let you know that your tool saved my life. At the time of the incident I was more than an hour away from any town, let alone a hospital. If the chainsaw would have cut my thigh, I very well could have bled to death on the drive to the nearest hospital. Thank you for making a tool that can stand up to a CHAINSAW!!!
