Leatherman Saved My Life

I was driving in my Volkswagen Vanagon camper when out of the blue a car pulls out of a side street and t-bones my van. ... Read the Rest of This Story

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.

Leave nothing undone . . . is true!

First I must say that I am not a handyman by any means. I recently decided to purchase a Leatherman as a "be prepared, just in case" type of item to carry on me. My first was a Blast, and from there I seemed to have developed a collector's addiction:) I got the Juice XE6 and then the S2, and now I also have a Charge ALX. All of them are great. However, my favorite so far is the Charge ALX. I love the outside blades and the cutting hook, as well as the overall look of the tool.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is due to my first statement about not being a handyman. I would always notice little things that could use doing, such as tightening a loose screw, etc. However, I would just put it off because getting a screwdriver or any other tool out of my very modest collection is a hassle. One little project in particular that I never even considered tackling was fixing a few problems with the back door to our home (which is like an entry way that we don't use). It never latched right and couldn't lock as the hole for the doorknob latch was not lined up correctly. So we resorted to just piling junk in front of it so that it would be hard to open from the outside (not a good thing in the event of needing an emergency exit). Well now thanks to my Leatherman, I went to work with the screwdriver and the saw on the Charge and in a matter of minutes the issue was fixed and the door now latches and locks securely. We cleaned out a bunch of junk and rearranged some items and now that door is clear and the room looks nice and neat.

Because of my Leatherman, I took care of an issue that we had just allowed to exist for years. I had never even considered doing anything to fix it until I had a Leatherman. Despite not being much of a handyman, I now find myself looking for things that may need fixing or tweaking in some form, just so I have an excuse to use it. Definitely a very handy tool and a must have EDC item! You never know when you may need it or what you can do once you have it!
