Leatherman Saves a Wedding
My wife’s sister was getting married and I was supposed to be just a spectator. But, nothing was like it was supposed to be.
The date of the wedding was June 14, 2008 and it was in Iowa City. The flood waters came in and closed the first venue 5 days before the ceremony. A second location was chosen and it got flooded out 2 days before the big day. All plans went out the window and the rehearsal dinner turned into a brainstorming session on how to pull off the ceremony. It was decided to move the site to the new couples’ backyard; they had just purchased a home the week before. The sellers of the property had left the yard a total mess, but it was on high ground.
The morning of the wedding 4 relatives, including me, met at the location to go to work. Because the couple had just moved in, they couldn’t find any tools, if they even had any. I used my Leatherman non-stop for the next 3 hours. We needed to disassemble an old dog kennel that they were not planning to use. There were some nice trees to use as the backdrop, but they needed some pruning. After removing the kennel, we needed to wash down the concrete as well as the cobwebs on the back of the house. The only problem here was that the faucet on the rear of the house didn’t work. There was also a 10 X 8 patch in the lawn that the previous owners used to burn trash and lawn clippings. We cleaned this up and spread out some mulch.
The wedding started 20 minutes late, but it was very nice. Nobody could believe the transformation. I used the Leatherman to disassemble a kennel, prune trees, repair a faucet, and open bags of mulch. I let my Leatherman celebrate with us too, by opening bags of ice and cutting the tape on some of the wedding gifts.
I use my Leatherman almost every day. I don’t carry it to church with me on Sunday, but I have missed it there on more than one occasion.
