The Crunch Saves the Shattered Tip
Having owned many Leatherman tools since the release of your first one...they have saved the day so many times I would need to gather at least a dozen different friends to tell all the stories. I assure you that behind each story lay at least one if not more, new and loyal owners.
Every time ol' Catfish [that would be me] saved the day with his trusty Leatherman [which only leaves my hip when my pants do] all those present to witness made the local sports/tool retailer their first stop once we returned to civilization. If only I had a dollar for every time I heard the phrase "I have got to have one of those”.
My words exactly when first I saw the Leatherman "CRUNCH'. Mine has not left my side since a boss, who heard me ranting on about one, tracked one down to present as a gift for being a good worker, and that was around July/August of 2002. Having used every feature my Crunch offers I have found it to be bar none the best single tool to keep close, if you choose to be the one that ALWAYS comes prepared.
Three days ago, while working in a very hard space to come out of until the job is done, I found the need of a small Phillips screwdriver. Of course all I had to do was reach for my hip, and the crunch jumped from its case as though it was a third hand. It was cold... the screw was tight... and... for a moment, my heart sank when the phillips tip shattered right before my unbelieving eyes. Could this be the day my Leatherman let me down? I DON'T THINK SO! I flipped it back over... snapped the vise grip plier into play... and... once again... my Leatherman saved the day before even one bad word came forth. Now my treasured gift is less than complete, but I do not have the heart to retire it or part with it to be repaired. OH MIGHTY LEATHERMAN GOD.... WHAT FOREVER SHALL I DO?
It clamps up to a 1-inch diameter pipe with its vise grips, and if you remove the adjusting screw, you'll find a hex-bit adapter built right in.
