Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.

Pamlico Sound Duck Tale

During a particularly cold day in the middle of January a group of friends and I made our way to Pamlico Sound adjacent to North Carolina's Outer Banks for a duck hunt. Temperatures were in the 20's that morning as we wrapped up a successful hunt. Not being able to wade in this area, we were retrieving decoys out of the boat when we inadvertently wrapped a decoy line around the propeller. The 150 lb test monofilament used for decoy lines brought the 200 hp outboard to a complete stop. We were now adrift 100 yards from shore with no one else in sight. To add to the dilema the wind was blowing off the shore 20 to 25 mph. Most of our equipment was still in the blind, but luckily I keep a Skeletool inside a pocket in my hunting jacket. With some acrobatics and my Leatherman I was able to cut and pull all of the decoy line away from the lower unit. I don't think an ordinary knife without the pliers could have got us out of that jam. We were back to the warm camp with a good tale in just a few minutes. Thanks Leatherman for the great tool!
