PNW Adventures to Squamish, B.C: Sea to Sky Gondola, Hiking & More

We convinced Subaru to loan us a Crosstrek to fuel some adventure at Leatherman. Handing the keys to some of our employees, we’re sharing why we love calling the Pacific Northwest home. What’s up for our next story? The Leatherman team ventured up to breathtaking Squamish, British Columbia to ride the Sea to Sky Gondola, walk the suspension bridge, & more.

With a full tank of gas, we were ready to start our six-hour drive to Squamish from Portland. We were surprised to see so much rain during our drive this time of year, but it was sounding like the weather would get better.

Our first stop in Canada was to grab some lunch. We decided to stop by downtown Vancouver, where we were still about an hour away from any fun Squamish activities. Vancouver has a large population of Chinese people, making it easy to find authentic and delicious Chinese food. With the weather being a little gloomy still, we went for some comfort food at Dinesty Dumpling House to get xiao long bao (steamed pork soup dumplings).

From Vancouver to Squamish, Highway 99 took us right to the Sea to Sky Gondola, one of the more scenic things to do in Squamish. The drive was breathtaking along the coast. As we made our way closer, the most beautiful mountains started to reveal themselves until we saw the sign and realized we were there.

The Sea to Sky gondola ride took us up for a 10-minute ride, about a half mile above sea level. On the way to the top, we were able to see the winding road we had driven on and the beautiful coastal mountain scenery altogether. While the clouds hid most of the amazing views, it made for a fun gondola ride through the clouds and some cool foggy photos.

Once at the top, we hiked the trails, explored the viewing platforms, and walked the Squamish BC suspension bridge. The huge granite monoliths in Squamish make it a big destination for rock climbing, mountain biking, and in the winter, skiing and snowshoeing, along with a lot of other activities. It’s safe to say that Squamish hikes are also far from disappointing.

Although this was a quick trip to Squamish on a whim, we were already thinking about our next trip there on a clear day with the right gear to explore in new ways.
