General

Some Leatherman products are crafted to follow TSA specifications for a carry-on item. Those products are listed below. One of our models - the Style PS - complies with all TSA requirements for a carry-on multifunction tool, but remember that it is ultimately up to TSA workers to decide what they are allowing on board or not. The current regulatory requirements can be found at www.tsa.gov. Other Leatherman products may be stowed in checked luggage that travels in the cargo area.

ATTENTION: UPDATED TSA GUIDELINES ON KNIVES

On 5 June 2013, the TSA (US Transportation Safety Authority) announced that it had withdrawn its decision to allow Messer to be part of the hand luggage on board. More information about these changes can be found at
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/prohibited-items.

Use a separate screwdriver or similar device to unlock the blades. With the handles closed together, insert the screwdriver into the slot created by the handle spring (where the handle locks onto the tool blades). Gently pry up the handle spring until one of the blades can be released.

Black oxide is a "conversion coating", which means it changes the surface of the product, rather than covering the product, as paint would. Black oxide is formed by oxidizing the outer layer of atoms on the surface. In effect, it's controlled rust. When you first use the product, the black substance is this outer layer. It will wear away to some extent, but that's the nature of this finish. To avoid the stains, simply take a rag with CRC 3-36 (or similar oil) and rub the tool surfaces thoroughly. The oil will set the finish and allow it to last longer. This is what your skin oils are actually doing when you handle the tool.

To start a warranty claim, please contact the authorized Leatherman distributor for your country.

Our products are designed to be disassembled by factory-trained technicians only. Repaired tools are reassembled (and the pivot posts cemented) to ensure proper tension for optimum tool performance. Attempting to disassemble a Leatherman tool yourself may result in lost components and compromised tool functionality. It may also void your warranty protection.

Warranty

Our warranty is simple. You broke it, we'll fix it. Please visit our Warranty page and follow the instructions to send in your product (no sheaths, please).

If you live outside of North America, please follow the international warranty instructions also located on the Warranty page. There you will select your country and send your product to an authorized Leatherman distributor.

Leatherman Insider points do not have a monetary value. Insider points are the way you can level up and unlock additional rewards and benefits.

Log in to your account and visit the "Leatherman Insider" tab. You will see how many points you have earned within your qualifying period.

Points for purchases made on leatherman.com will show up in your account when your order has been processed. This typically happens within 24-72 hours of when your order has shipped.

Your points are good for one year from your signup date, and will expire every year on your anniversary. The points you earn in the 12-month period qualify you to level up into Select, Premier, or Elite Insider status. But the tier and benefits you’ve received during the year will remain.

The points you earn let you unlock exclusive rewards and experiences. Insiders unlock Select status automatically upon enrollment. Achieving Premier or Elite status requires a minimum number of points earned per qualifying period: Select: 0-1,199, Premier: 1,200-2,299 and Elite: 2,300+ points.

If you are a Leatherman Insider, and the order you placed was on leatherman.com you are eligible for hassle-free returns if you request a return within 30 days of when the order was originally received. Additional information on our return policy can be found on our shipping & returns page.

No matter when you return an item, even if it’s within the 30-day return window or after, you will lose the points associated with that purchase/return.

If you cancel an order, you will not receive points into your account.

This feature is coming soon. Once it is released, you will be able to scan your receipt, and earn points for that purchase. It takes between 24-72 hours for receipt scans to be reviewed and verified before points will be added to your points balance in your account (once this feature is available).

The 12-month qualification period starts when you join the program. For example, if you join the program on September 25, 2023, your qualifying period starts on September 25 of each year and ends on September 24, of each year.

Your point balance will reset to 0 at the end of your qualifying period each year (they do not carryover). The points accumulated during the qualification period allow members to upgrade tier, to keep, or to downgrade tier status. You will retain your benefits and status after your points reset.

As a Leatherman Insider, you enjoy an elevated experience every day. Rewards such as: Free Shipping (threshold varies by tier), 40-year extended warranty, and 30-day hassle-free returns. More rewards and experiences can be unlocked as you reach new tiers.

Log in to your account and visit "Leatherman Insider" tab. You will see if you have reached Select, Premier, or Elite Insider tier.

Premier and Elite Insider members need to place an order for over $50 from leatherman.com during your birthday month to redeem your free gift. We will email you a reminder when your birthday month arrives. An Insider must have shared their birthday with us (you can do this when you sign up or update your profile) in order to be notified. The gift becomes available as of the 1st of the month, so you have a full month to purchase and claim your gift.

For an Elite Insider, we will notify you when our Anniversary Gift is available for you to redeem. You will have a certain window of time to select your gift, and we will ship to the address you provide at checkout.

Leatherman Insiders get exclusive access to an Annual Sales Event. During this event, an Insider will get exclusive offers only available to Insiders. The offers will vary based on the tier you are in. The higher the tier, the greater the offers.

If you wish to close your Leatherman Insider Account, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-847-8665 or email at info@leatherman.com, and they can assist you. Please note: if you decide to rejoin the program later, your history and points cannot be restored.

STEEL

Different types of steel offer varying levels of performance in terms of edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. These qualities determine the character of a particular steel and ultimately, the performance of a knife blade. Leatherman uses a variety of steel types in our knife blades including: 420HC steel, CPM MagnaCut, S30V, and 154CM.

420HC steel is a high-carbon stainless steel that is specifically designed for knife blades. It offers good edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, as well as being relatively easy to sharpen. While it may not be considered a premium steel, it is still a high-quality material and is ideally suited for an everyday working blade on a multi-tool. Because it’s cost-effective, easy to produce, and performs well all-around, it is the most common steel type found on Leatherman multi-tools.

CPM MagnaCut is a high-performance premium steel that hits the sweet spot of qualities that make a superior knife blade. It has excellent edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It is a relatively new steel on the market and is an excellent choice as a knife steel because it retains its edge so well and is easier to maintain. Leatherman has chosen to use this steel in the Arc to give our users the best possible cutting performance on the best multi-tool we’ve ever made. It’s also particularly well suited for harsh conditions and wet environments.

S30V steel is a high-performance stainless steel that offers excellent edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It is a premium steel that is often used in high-end knives and multi-tools like the Charge + TTI. It is more difficult to sharpen than some other steels, but it offers exceptional cutting performance.

154CM steel is a high-performance stainless steel that offers good edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It is a premium steel that is often used in high-end knives and multi-tools like the Skeletool CX. It’s slightly easier to sharpen if you maintain your own blade.

Our premium wire cutters are made from 440C steel.
