    Comments about Raptor:

As an EMT I am confident that this is the last pair of trauma shears that I will ever have to purchase. Just about every associate of mine who has used my pair has bought a pair themselves. Very impressed with the cutting power of the shears. The shears don't fall out of the holster and the holster really stays on my belt with out any risk of coming off. Don't regret this investment at all.

      Comments about Raptor:

WOW, just wow, these things are probably the best on the job tool I've ever bought besides(and extremely close second too) my leatherman charge tti, I use it every day either in the emergency room or deployed or for every day tasks, there simply isn't another pair of shears or emergency tool that compares to this, I bought one and within a month 5 of the 6 other medics in my company that I work with had one, the other wants one, it just doesn't get better. Still, I have a couple complaints (nothing that would come close to me not buying another pair however, albeit uncessary due to diligent craftsmanship), the cleaner I let it soak in has degraded but far from eliminated the writing on the ruler portion which I use extensively, engraving could fix issue, also I would love an option to buy this with a steel that keeps an edge better and is easier to sharpen such as s30v, I know it would be significantly more expensive but in a great moment of need I would much rather pay more to have sheers I wouldn't need to sharpen nearly as often. But again, this is such a far superior product to anything else out there that for now I would never want anything else, and due to the excellent materials and craftsmanship at leatherman you really won't need to buy another set of sheers, simply amazing.

These are the best cutting trauma shears that I've ever used, they would be worth the price, just for that! I haven't run into anything that they don't cut through like butter.

Our uniform pants don't have a trauma shear pocket, so I also love that these fold up and clip to a pocket so I don't have to have them stuck in my belt or hanging off a carabiner.

My only complaint is about the Kydex Holster. It does not fit on a standard duty belt. I wish the belt clip was approximately 1/4" to 1/2" taller. Otherwise this tool is fanatastic! Very sharp!

                      Comments about Raptor:

I carry the Raptor trauma shears multi-tool on me every shift. Less common on Fire/Rescue and EMS rigs probably, but it's amazing how in an Emergency Department, often when you need this basic necessity for rapid exposure of injuries covered by clothing, or when casting/splinting or even applying basic wound dressings, a pair of good (and sharp) trauma shears can be hard to find (that would never have flown back when we were residents).

I was lucky one of my physician colleagues was carrying some one shift when I borrowed them, and immediately once in my hand, the balance and weight perfect, as they sliced through the thick, padded, fiberglass splinting splinting material effortlessly, I knew I had to get a pair. Once things settled down a bit, I actually went and found my co-worker again just to finish checking them out. I was really impressed with how thoughtful their design was as an emergency medicine and rescue multitool with each and every feature high quality and useful, in true Leatherman fashion, none of them flimsy or half-hearted after thoughts; all well designed and fabricated tools in their own right.

Easy to carry whether using the clip on the tool itself or the rugged holster (initially a bit difficult to remove and replace the tool in and out of it, that went away after the first day of use), they are light and compact, folding and unfolding quick and easy.

Very sharp and capable shears with high level of precision in the blade effacement when scissoring (action a little stiffer than the cheap ones for this reason, but I'd choose the greater precision when cutting that they offer and strengthen my grip a bit over sloppy blade effacement anytime). The "belt-cutter" is likewise sharp and capable, and depending on the clothing and occasion, sometimes the tool of choice for zipping open the pant leg of a pair of jeans to get at an unstable fracture or other injury ASAP.

ECG ruler on the blade? Brilliant inclusion! Better than calipers (one more tool none of us carry anymore otherwise, but would love to have when trying to figure out if that rhythm is atrial fibrillation vs. second or third degree block for example)

Including the ring cutter as well was a brilliant add, and I feel a little guilty about my newfound anticipation to lay waste to a wedding band in the name of saving a finger.

Lastly, let's be honest, who of us doesn't love the fact that it puts a real life, functional "Transformer" on our belt or in our pocket?

My only suggestions for consideration by Leatherman would be:
                      1. Either add a little rubber on the outside of one of the handles to double as the striking surface of a reflex hammer vs. offer an attachable accessory for this purpose.
                      - As is, the handle doesn't have enough weight or protection to really use the Raptor for this, but again, part of that I'm sure is to keep the tool as light and compact as possible, and the added weight/bulk that this would add would likely be a turn off for tactical and pre-hospital rescue/EMS providers, so no complaints here. An ER Doc like myself however, would find it really useful.

                      2. If there were a way to add a useful blade to this tool to double as a pocket knife, it would always be with me even on those precious "off-days". As is though, I'm never without it when I work.

My only question was:" What took soo long" ?

                          Comments about Raptor:

Great product, my son rolled his ankle playing football and after practice and games he uses the raptor to easily and safely cut off the multiple wraps of tape supporting his ankle. Only quirk is you cannot fold one handle when the seat belt cutter is deployed, the cutter blocks one of the handle's lock tab. The holster was extremely well thought out.

This tool is an essential and everyday tool for anyone in the medical field. I use my shears on a daily basis. As an ER nurse, these shears stand up to the daily wear and tear, trauma situations, and even vigorous cleaning after being used. These shears are just as important to me as my stethascope. Worth Every Penny!!

                          Comments about Raptor:

I had been looking at these shears since they first rolled out in 2013, but at first they were hard to find and the price seemed pretty high.
I finally broke down and coughed up the price for the Raptor and retired my set of shears that have lasted me several years but were due for replacement.
The fit and function of the Raptor is great, with some cool extra tools. It is a little hard to get them out of the sheath as it generally takes two hands to release and remove, but I can live with this.
My main issue, which is why it gets 3 stars at best, is that I have had it for less than a month and as near as I can tell it has not yet been exposed any water issues but I noticed that it started having rust spots appear.
I called the manufacturer about this and their response was to direct me to the support section of their website and the care and cleaning of their tools.
They could not explain to me why, after having this tool for less than a month and taking pretty good care with it, especially for what it cost, why it would already have corrosion issues.
They offered for me to return it to where I bought it at my expense, if they would take it back, or return it to the manufacturer at my expense, to have them see if they would warranty it, which would leave me without the very expensive tool that I had just bought based in part for the manufacturers reputation and warranty. They would not say how long of a turn around time this would take.
As I can not be without a decent set of shears, I did use a scothcbrite pad to clean off the rust spots, at least the ones that I could reach with the pad and reoiled the tool. My issue with this is that even though I was careful, there is still a chance that abrasive particles could still be in the joints of the tool and now the finish of the product is uneven where it was abraded.
I have not yet decided what to do about this tools future, but I can say that I am disappointed in the manufacturers handling of this issue.
Maybe I should just stay with same type of shears as they did not have a single issue, other than wearing out after many years of hard use.

                            Comments about Raptor:

I bought this as an alternative to a scuba diving knife as some places (cruise ships) won't let you take a knife. Upon inspection the Raptor seemed like a great tool - it had a belt cutter that works as a line cutter diving and the shears appeared very strong. I even loved the sheath as it looked like the Raptor would be easy ro access in an emergency. The most important part for me was that is was stainless steel.

I attached the sheath to a web strap on my BCD and when I got back in the boat I sat down and it fell off. Glad it didn't happen in the water. After the second and final dive I rinsed all my gear including the Raptor in fresh water. Imagine my surprise when I saw rust on it the next day. I think the blade material is stainless steel but it looks like anywhere there is a spring, rust came out so I suspect it is not all SS.

So I like the tool and would recommend it, just not working around salt water.

I'm in Fire and EMS, and these shears are undoubtedly great! But they won't fit in a standard trauma-shears pocket on your pants or other gear. They do come with both a sheath and fold up to use the pocket clip, both of which features are awesome, but because of the dimensions, you will not be able to put them in your standard shears pocket, so you will have to either carry them folded in a pocket or on the sheath.
The sheath itself is impressively versatile, completely adjustable for carry in any position including up-side down (I use the inverted carry for easy access on my bunker gear suspenders, under my fire coat), and malle/pals comparable as well!
I love the simple features and versitality, I'm not sure how you could incorporate them into dimensions that would fit an ems pocket, but that hasn't stopped me from carrying them folded with the pocket clip in my back pocket.

I am impressed with this tool. Every feature is well thought out, and extremely useful. The tool itself is slightly heavier than a typical pair of trauma shears, but that's acceptable to me. When is the last time you needed to transport a patient with O2, but couldn't find a tank? Inevitably when you do find a tank it will be empty. Gotta change the regulator over to a full tank, but where is that darn O2 key? Now I have one integrated into the system. When is the last time you tried to cut some heavy blue jeans and watched your shears struggle and gum up with the heavy material? These shears have heavy duty cutting blades that are very sharp, keep a keen edge, and take a new one without problem. The ruler is extremely useful, from marching out that 12 lead, to accurately documenting the size of that lac. Overall I am very pleased and can easily recommend this tool.

I got these for Christmas. I am a full time Firefighter/Medic and my first shift back after getting them, I used it at a car accident, cut seat belts with ease using the cutter, and then cut clothing on our patient. They were contaminated with blood after the call. I used the same disinfectant to clean these that we use to clean our rigs. Didn't really pay attention to them, but the next shift I was showing them to someone telling about how cool they were and I noticed that the imprinted ruler was gone. So my only negative feedback is that. I think that Leatherman should engrave the ruler instead of using something that is going to come off the first time they have to be cleaned.

At first I wasn't sure what it would be like to have this on my belt, but with the infinitely adjustable tool holster it comes with, giving me quick easy access, in no time it became part of my daily uniform. With the Leatherman Wave on my left and Leatherman Raptor on my right, I rarely have to make a trip to the tool bench while conducting my daily Apparatus inspections and Rig checks. All my co-workers (including the Chief) have asked about it since they see it on my belt every day. I love showing it off to people. I unfold it then explain it's versatility. On scene calls, It has just the right tool compliment for quick vehicle extrication purposes and patient packaging. Did anyone else notice the usable file edge? This is a great company and these shears are the toughest!

This shear is the king of all shears... no other way to put it. When taking the Raptor and looking straight down with it next to your 'standard' shear there is no comparison, it is at least 4 times thick per blade then the average shear. There is no chance when I have to cut that first set of leathers off a patient either while working as an EMT on an ambulance or while working as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department that they will not do what most average shears do which is weakly cut, 'gum up' and 'bend' as they struggle to cut the tough material. The fact that the shears fold up to a compact size and have the six different functions add to attractiveness as a first responder product, I have yet to find a flaw besides how difficult it was to obtain the pair I managed to get my hands on.

                                        Comments about Raptor:

I'm probably not the target user for the Raptor, but love it - it's an excellent addition to my work, outdoor and travel EDC, alongside a pocket knife and standard Leatherman tool. There are many every-day and outdoor cutting tasks for which a pair of strong, sharp pocket shears are much better suited than a knife - safer, more controllable, and less intimidating to others. With the strict knife laws and common "anti-knife" feelings in the UK, I feel far happier producing a pair of shears from my pocket or backpack when ever I'm in any kind of work or urban setting. So far I have used it at work for tasks like opening boxes, packages and parcels; cutting cable-ties and box straps, trimming walking boot insoles and footbeds, and removing labels from clothing and footwear (those ones attached with the really tough nylon loops). Outdoors it has been great for clearing the odd bramble from footpaths, and even cutting flowers for my girlfriend (it easily cuts thin stems, shoots and twigs). At home, there are obviously no end of DIY, cooking, and hobby tasks for which it could be used.
I do have a couple of good friends who are paramedics who immediately saw the benefits of the Raptor when I showed them - one was quick to describe how it recently took him and a college over 20mins to cut a patient out of their motorcycle leathers using the cheap, semi-disposable medical shears they normally carry (motorcycle leathers often contain very tough fabrics like Kevlar these days). He is now eagerly awaiting his own Raptor!

I have been a Paramedic for 16 years and I absolutely love these shears. I like the features included and the fact they are lightweight and compact. I would like to add that Leatherman even thought of EKG measurement in these shears. There are graduations on the scale for measuring EKG's @ 25mm/s. I have been researching this and haven't found anyone that mentions it. The shears clean easily and can be autoclaved if necessary. They truly thought of everything with these shears and I'm sure I will use them for years to come.
