MEET MR. CRUNCH

In 1975, Tim Leatherman was looking for a tool that didn't exist. So, he decided to build one. Tim headed to the garage with a few sketches and an idea to create what was in his mind. Fast forward eight years and the Leatherman PST® multi-tool was born. But during those years, Tim built, tested, broke, and engineered a host of prototypes and parts that ultimately didn't make it to production. Even the name of his patented prototype—Mr. Crunch—was changed in favor of the now-famous "Leatherman." One of the main tools was a double-pliers feature—too costly and complex for manufacturing back then. For this inaugural Leatherman Garage release, we're combining our iconic forgotten feature with our most advanced multi-tool to date, the FREE® P4. The P4 is designed with the FREE magnetic technology that allows quick, fluid access to all 21 tools. And the double-pliers snap into place when deployed and stow away when they're not needed. We hope this product inspires new ways to fix, tinker, and solve your way out of problems, just as Tim did in his garage over 40 years ago.

"I bought the Crunch as an addendum carry. I was lucky enough to get one out of this last batch. I carry a SuperTool 300 every day, but wanted the option of a more conventionally shaped plier head for times when that is needed, along with the vise grip function. The crunch offers both of those attributes. I am a professional Auto Tech and shop owner. I have a giant tool box full of Snap On tools. But when I'm in the parking lot checking something, or under a dash and need an unexpected tool, the Leathermans always come through for me. Plus, I fix everything around the house, so the tools are always handy for a quick fix, or when at a friend or relative's house and I need a tool. Leatherman is Top Quality stuff. I've found nothing better because there is nothing better. My only question is WHY would you not continue making the Crunch? The only thing I might recommend is making it full size the the ST 300. But it's great for what it is."

Unique Design

"Needles to say that Tim Leatherman and Co picked up true spirit of western pioneers. Pioneers in multitool field in this case. Due to limited run I am probably not going to put it to the same level of hard use as my wave or Free P4, but it wouldn't shy away of any task I am sure. Very unique, originally patented design of plier head, almost perfect parallel pliers. Good size scissors, updated design of micro screwdriver holder (one piece) I wish my Free P4 had one. Combinatory chisel/package opener/ scrape. Overall nice toolset."

"The release of this tool proves that Tim Leatherman was thinking about how to truly fit a toolbox in your pocket almost 40 years ago. The uniqueness of this design is like no other multitool on the market to date. Combine this throwback to the original design with the Free series ease of use and you have Mr. Crunch. A Technician’s dream come true.

"I’m a Pipeline Technician by trade, I’m cranking on valves and rebuilding natural gas equipment daily. It’s like this tool was built specifically for my job. Main thing we use is pliers, Phillips/flat head drivers. Having the option to transform the pliers has been a dream for when we get into tight spaces and need to back up a bolt/nut. I also like that the free chassis (one handed opening) was chosen for this tool. The action on all the tools were great straight out of the box, I was worried about the tolerance’s of the pliers even though they look beefy and feel great in hand, but after beating on this thing for two weeks, it has earned its spot as my new EDC. The Garage concept is extremely exciting for us hardcore Leatherman users and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future! Great job Leatherman team, Tyler Texas, USA"
